- Emily and I are engaged, as of Sunday of last week. Aren't these daily web page updates wonderful?
- We took a trip to UNC Chapel Hill in the morning and walked around campus a bit before having lunch at Cosmic Cantina. The proposal took place under the unnaturally preserved Davie Poplar. Emily said yes! This made me very happy, and also spared me the anxiety of deciding whether or not to drive her back home to Winston-Salem.
- A word of advice for any future guys out there contemplating a proposal: it seems you pretty much have to get down on one knee to do it right. I did so without being aware of the law of nature that compels everyone you tell about the engagement to ask whether or not you did, in fact, kneel when asking. It's right up there with congratulations and best-wishes in terms of initial responses.
- It's not as though they say anything constructive when they get an affirmative response, so I can only assume it's some sort of secret test designed to preemptively out you as a thoughtless jerk.

- On the 47th anniversary of the Sputnik launch, we have another historic first: SpaceShipOne has won the $10 million X Prize for privately-funded, manned spaceflight.
- We also have brand new September Archives and a new page update, though these lesser accomplishments will go unsung in the annals of human history.
