Welcome to the World of Warcraft Fan Site Hall of Shame.
This page is intended to document the selfish activities of sites in the Blizzard Fan Site Program who privately handed out World of Warcraft beta keys.
These sites were supposed to come up with a fun, creative contest to give out three keys to talented, loyal fans. Many did so. Many more abused Blizzard's trust and demonstrated contempt for the larger community they are purportedly serving.
Sites listed in the Hall of Shame include:
- Sites where no record of any contest can be found.
- Sites that did not distribute all three keys as part of a contest.
- Sites which gave keys to staff members.
- Sites that restricted participation to subscription or guild membership only.
- Sites with contests that clearly and unfairly favor close personal friends of the site operator.
If you are aware of a site which violated one or more of these guidelines, please contact me with the details. Errors or suggested revisions should likewise be sent to this address. Sites will not be listed without links to supporting evidence.
- Legions of Azeroth --
The contest heavily favored personal friends and guild membership. - World of Warcraft Catacombs --
Only two contest keys were awarded. - WoW.WarcraftStrategy.com --
Only two contest keys were awarded. - War3.com --
Only one contest key was awarded. - Warcraft Wars --
Only one contest key was awarded. - Allakhazam's Magical Realm --
The contest was available to subscription members only.
Thus far I have only identified fifteen so or fansite contests, and the above list is drawn from that number. Blizzard has indicated that there are around 100 fan sites which received contest keys. This is a huge discrepancy, and any information on the "missing" fan sites would be appreciated.
Disclaimer: This page has been created as a historical record out of personal interest. I am not affiliated with any fan site. All fan sites are not created equal, and some should feel more ashamed than others.
